Last year I set a pretty ambitious set of goals for myself. Some I achieved, some I didn’t. I’ve never really been one for New Year’s resolutions, but it was nice to have these goals in the back of my head as the year went on, always reminding me of the things I hoped to accomplish. With that in mind, here are my goals for this year:
Family and Friends
- Take Caroline to do age appropriate activities on the weekends.
- Continue to Skype regularly with family.
- Go to church more often.
- Ignore my phone and computer when Caroline is awake.
- Have a date night with Jeromy at least every 6 weeks. {we failed miserably when we tried for monthly, so maybe every 6 weeks is a better goal}.
- Show our nanny how much we appreciate her more often.
Health and Fitness
- In bed by 10 pm, lights out by 10:30.
- Train for and run the Nike Women’s 1/2 Marathon in April.
- Incorporate yoga into my workouts, 2-3 times per week.
- Incorporate strength training into my workouts, 2-3 times per week.
- Remember that taking time for myself to workout is not a bad thing. I struggle with spending time away from Caroline when I’m not at work and my health and fitness has certainly suffered because of it in the past year.
Hobbies
- Share 100 recipes on The Splattered Apron. {Not all original recipes, I do have a full-time job!}
- Complete 4 sewing projects.
- Complete 6 knitting projects.
- Read 15 books.
- Continue to improve my photography.
- Volunteer. Preferably in a way that we can do it as a family.
My number one goal for the year will again be to find balance in my days, but I have a feeling that will be a lifelong goal. As long as I’m pursuing it with a smile on my face and a happy family around me, I’m okay with that.
What are your goals for 2013?

can’t beat that goal!
These are great goals Lisa. I need to get to bed earlier. I stay up way too late. It’s gotten to be a really bad habit. And yes, working out is good for you and it’s important for you to be happy and healthy in order to be a happy and healthy mom. It’s hard, I know, but that’s what I tell myself. Here’s to finding balance in 2013!

So a little over a month in and I can tell you I am failing miserably at going to bed earlier. Here’s to balance in 2013 (and beyond, because 2013 may be a little ambitious
)
This year is all about mental health and listening to my body – eat when I’m hungry (and ONLY when I’m hungry, not tired, bored, happy, feeding kids, etc.), sleep when I’m tired, read whenever I have 5 minutes because short bursts add up during the day, exercise during my toddler’s nap time (10 minutes of yoga, 30 minutes of running, 10 minutes of meditation), and simplifying my “getting ready” routine so that showering in the middle of the day doesn’t take up the rest of my free time before Ian wakes up. I’m doing great so far aside from the fact that facebook during nap time is NOT on the list and clearly that’s what I’m doing instead of working out right now! Wishing you a happy and healthy 2013!
Jamie, this sounds like a great goal and that you’re off to a fantastic start. A happy and healthy 2013 to you and your family too!
Wow, you have a lot of goals for 2013! But they all look like really good ones
Photography is something that I want to work on in the coming year, as well. I just got some great new software for Christmas, so I’m really looking forward to seeing how that’s going to improve my photos. I also want to create a space where I can take good photos of food. Right now I have an “okay” spot, but it always gives off this orange-y glow that throws off the color, so I want to figure out a space and get some back-drops and stuff.
Thanks! I’ve been using free editing software but I would love to get Lightroom or Photoshop one day. I just recently started increasing my prop collection for food photography but definitely need some help in the background department. If only we had 10 extra hours in the day, right?
I also feel guilty when working out. Working full time and being a mom is surely difficult. I bought an excercise ball and use it while my daughter plays . She loves watching me and most times she’s on it ( holding g her while she juMps and rolls on top is an excrcise for both of us)
haha yes! Sometimes I’ll do a quick circuit workout with my daughter in the playroom and she’ll try to do what I’m doing or stop what I’m doing to do it the way she wants me to, I love it! It may not be as effective of a workout, but at least we’re both having fun.
