Eight Months and on the Move!

by Lisa on April 17, 2012

This post is a week late.  Every night that I wanted to write it I left Caroline’s baby book in her room after she went to bed!

It’s amazing to see how Caroline has grown over the past eight months.  Each month I think there’s no way it gets better than this, and then it does.

She doesn’t go back to the doctor until next month so I don’t know what her stats are but I would say from the looks of her, she is healthy and thriving.

Caroline has mastered the army crawl! I can no longer put her down and expect her to be in the same spot 10 seconds later.  She is off and crawling to whatever it is that has caught her eye.

She loves to wave. She waves at anything that has a face: people, animals or pictures.  If you’re familiar to her you’ll also get a big grin.  When I went to pick her up from the nanny the week after she started waving she looked up at me, her face broke into a smile, she raised her hand to wave and then reached for me. I melted into a puddle of mushy goo right then and there.

She is constantly giggling and testing out the different range of her voice with very loud giggles, laughs, coos, syllables {most notably, Da} and occasionally a shriek.  She earned the nickname Squeaky when she was first born because she was always making squeaking noises. Eight months later, she still squeaks, especially when she’s excited about something.

Caroline can pull herself to standing. I learned this early one morning when I was putting away her clothes and plopped her in the laundry basket to sit next to me.  She put her arms up and pushed herself up. It was amazing.  Now she loves to stand and play either on my lap or with her music table.

This month, we celebrated Caroline’s first Easter.  She was quite spoiled by the Easter bunny. And was such a good girl at church.

We had a weird incident this month when she refused to nurse before bed and wouldn’t take a bottle. So we just let her go to sleep and she slept right through the night, woke up and nursed as usual. The next night she wouldn’t nurse, took a bottle and then started nursing.  The third night we switched up her bedtime routine to get her to nurse {she did} and the fourth night she was back to normal.  I have no idea what happened that first night, I’m assuming it was either teeth, her belly was bothering her or she just had too much for dinner.

She eats more and more solid food every day.  We’re doing a combination of purees and baby lead weaning because she loves to be able to feed herself.  Favorite finger foods {so far!} are puffs, avocado, banana, chicken and apples. Feeding Caroline is one of my favorite things to do.  Sometimes we let her nibble on something we’re eating {as long as she hasn’t had another new food that day} which she enjoys.  She loves pickles. Like mama, like daughter.

She’s pretty much done with her pacifier, but we have it in her crib just in case she wants it during naptime or bedtime, but generally she does not use it to fall asleep anymore.  I’m happy that it looks like we won’t have to break a pacifier dependency

Speaking of sleep, Caroline is doing very well with her nap schedule. She takes one in the morning and one in the afternoon.  She began sleeping on her belly with her hands tucked under her. It looks really uncomfortable, but she sleeps soundly that way.  In fact, when I have put her in her crib asleep on her back, she flips herself right over to her belly. It’s adorable.

Caroline loves to be on the move, she’s always twisting herself around to see what’s going on, she’s not content to just sit in the same spot and be still.  Except for when I’m holding her.  She’s a mama’s girl through and through.

Baby girl, I can’t capture how wonderful your little personality is in words.  Your daddy and I feel so lucky to be able to experience life with you each and every day.

We love you more than you’ll ever know, sweet pea.
