Army Ten Miler: Race Recap

by Lisa on October 23, 2012

This race recap is really short: I didn’t run the race.  But I did get to meet Madeline and Emmie, Katie and Xander, Lani and Anne the day before the race!

These ladies rocked the race and I’m sad I didn’t get to participate.  On a happy note, Madeline, Katie and I had a great time introducing our babies to each other! Note: it is really hard to get three babies looking in the same direction.

I’ve been dealing with knee issues for over a year. And when I say “dealing with” I mean “ignoring.”  When I wrote this post, I was still thinking that I could pull off running the Army Ten Miler but after having knee pain and soreness following a three mile run, I had to be realistic.  I couldn’t run the race and I really needed to see a doctor and start physical therapy to fix my knee.

PT started this morning and as it turns out, all of my problems are coming from my incredibly tight IT band.  The physical therapist said that my IT band and quad are so tight that they have meddled together.  So the goal is to loosen them up, strengthen the muscles and then maintain the conditioning.  It’s going to involve a lot of stretching, foam rolling and strengthening exercises.  I’m excited to have a plan and am looking forward to no knee pain!

With all of this is mind, I want another goal to work towards during therapy. I ran the Jingle All the Way 10K 6 years ago and it was a lot of fun! This year it’s been reduced to an 8K and I think that is a doable distance to aim for after therapy.  So that’s my goal—Jingle All the Way 8K on December 9th

Who wants to run with me??

(Katie, I’m looking at you! ;-)

So sorry that you did not get to run the race but i am glad to hear that you are taking care of yourself. Your knee pain could have meant something worse, but it is good to know that therapy can help. Thanks for sharing baby pictures!

Thanks! I’ve had surgery on my left knee and have been doing PT for it off and on since I was 11 years old. Sad to say that I’m very familiar with knee issues!

I could probably be talked into that… especially if we wear jingle bells on our shoes ;)

I really want to run Jingle All the Way 8k this year! I just need to get my butt in gear and sign up.

Keep stretching that knee and taking care of yourself!

Same thing happened to me a few years back, and after therapy and foam rolling my life away, I was able to complete another race! Good luck, and hope the knee is feeling good soon! :)

I LOVE the Jingle All the Way race. I kept the bells on my shoes for like a month after the race. I also made an ankle injury worse there… but I had only twisted it days before and thought i could squeeze a 10k in. I think it is a great goal for you and am excited to see the pictures!
Go Lisa!

I would love to run the Jingle all the Way, but don’t think I’ll be there by December. I’m looking for a 5k maybe next spring as my first race post-baby, so keep us updated if you sign up for any more. Maybe next year I can get around to the Army 10-miler…it’s a great goal! Fingers crossed you get better soon!
