Hello! Hope you had a great Thanksgiving! We’re still in Massachusetts and are catching a very e.a.r.l.y. flight home and there is absolutely no food in our house.  To make it easy, I just placed an online order at Harris Teeter that I can pick up when I pick Caroline up from our nanny.  So even though we’re out of town, I planned our weekly menu.  Here it is:

whatsfordinnermenuplanning

Monday: Salmon with green beans and rice
Tuesday: Tomato and Sausage Risotto
Wednesday: Chicken Stir Fry
Thursday: leftovers
Friday: Grilled Cheese and Tomato Soup
Saturday: Roast Chicken with Brussels Sprouts and Roasted Potatoes

After a weekend of indulging in Thanksgiving foods, it’s time to get back to some healthy eating.  Before Christmas derails us again :-)

What’s on your menu this week?

Don’t forget to enter my Gaiam TV giveaway! Entries close Tuesday at midnight.

My Favorite Fall Flavors

by Lisa on October 11, 2012

If you happen to catch any of my tweets from Tuesday night you know that I accidentally spilled a glass of wine on my computer and was worried that I had killed it.  Well, good news! It came back and I was able to back up anything that I hadn’t recently backed up. Phew!
******************************************************************************

I have a really hard time choosing between summer and fall for which season has the better produce.  Summer produce often requires little to no preparation which is perfect in the hot weather but fall produce allows for more developed flavors.  So it’s safe to say that I’m excited that October is here.  I love to try new recipes but I also have some favorites that I fall back on. See what I did right there? Fall back on. Ha!  Anyways, here are some of my favorites!

Technical {Difficulties}

by Lisa on August 6, 2011

Happy Saturday!

Just a quick post to apologize to anyone that saw the first in my series of guest posts earlier that implied I had given birth to my baby.  I haven’t, we’re still waiting and I am assembling all of my guests posts and hit the wrong button :-)

So stay tuned, when our girl makes her arrival, we’ll be sure to share the news!

My {7 Links}

by Lisa on July 27, 2011

Over the past couple of weeks there has been a fun post floating around the blog world, it’s an opportunity for a blogger to look back through old posts.  I was wondering if I could manage to pick out these 7 links when Callie and Amanda tagged me to participate!  I’ve been blogging for less than a year so this was a challenge that I was excited to take on–thanks so much for tagging me, ladies!

Most Beautiful Post: Checking In {After 3 Weeks}
This was my first post after coming back from our wedding and honeymoon, little did we know that I was also pregnant when I wrote it!  Which is what makes it beautiful to me—so much happened in 3 short weeks.

Most Popular Post: On Pregnancy {Weighing In}
I wrote this post thinking that it would get some negative feedback, but instead I was surprised by the support I received!  It is the highest viewed post I’ve written and I think it struck a chord with a lot of women who are used to taking care of their bodies and staying in shape—recognizing that your body is not just yours while pregnant is a hard adjustment, but completely worth it in the end.

Most Controversial Post: On Pregnancy {Weighing In}
This wasn’t actually a controversial post, like I mentioned above, but I expected it to be.  It’s hard to find a controversial topic when the whole point of my blog is the share recipes and make cooking accessible to everyone. :-)

Most Helpful Post: This Week {In Groceries} series {and here}
Readers have told me how much they appreciate these posts because of how they help with meal planning.  I hope to get back to writing these posts once our baby girl arrives and we have settled into our new normal.

A Post Whose Success Surprised You: A Look Inside {Our New House}
I know everyone loves looking inside houses—how else is HGTV so successful? I just wasn’t expecting so many people to check out this post and the video tour.  I still think I have a horrendous voice, so videos will be few and far between.  We do have a lot of plans for our house, so maybe there will be another video tour to compare!

A Post You Feel Didn’t Get the Attention It Deserved: On Pregnancy {My Dos and Don’ts}
I expected there to be a lot more commentary on this post than I received and all of the commentary was positive! Not that I was trying to start a controversy, but it seems like everyone, down to the checkout guy at Trader Joe’s, has an opinion on pregnancy that they want to share, I just figured there would be more of that.  I’d love to hear what you think if you haven’t shared already!

Post You’re Most Proud Of: Something Sweet {Chai Spice Cookies}
I’m really proud of this cookie post because it was one of the first times that I shared a recipe that I made up myself.  If that weren’t enough, I made the cookies vegan, which I had never done before.  And they were delicious—success!

Outside {of the Kitchen}

by Lisa on March 12, 2011

The events that are happening across the world today make me pause and consider my situation in life compared to others tonight.

Tonight, I am sitting next to my husband.  Tonight, I ate a full meal and drank clean water.  Tonight, I have electricity and a roof over my head.  Tonight, I know the earth is not going to shake beneath me.

I am so fortunate.

People halfway across the world in Japan are not going to sleep with these small comforts. Many don’t know where their loved ones are. Homes were washed out to sea.  The ground will almost certainly shake beneath their feet.

In this day and age it is so easy to get caught up in our own lives and forget that outside of our small world, there is suffering and devastation.  But there are people in this world whose lives are dedicated to helping those in need.  The doctors and staff behind Medecins San Frontieres/Doctors Without Borders are already on the ground in Japan, trying to get to the areas that are most affected to help. The people of the Red Cross are already mobilizing to provide relief to the people of Japan and of other countries effected by the tsumani.

We must remember that even when this is off the news, the suffering and recovery does not end.  There is so much work to be done. And we can help.  Please consider making a donation to MSF or the American Red Cross.  Remember that no gift is too small.

When I was in Sunday School, during Lent we were taught that rather than give something up, we should do good deeds for other people every day.  It seems appropriate during this season of Lent to write this post, despite the fact that it has nothing to do with food and I don’t have a recipe to share.  Thank you for reading.
