Before Caroline was born, I ran two half marathons, completed three sprint triathlons, one Olympic distance triathlon and numerous other road races—10 miles, 10Ks and 5Ks. I trained with Team in Training, I trained with a boot camp and I worked with a trainer leading up to my wedding.
I certainly went through times when I would be burned out and not work out very much but I always came back to it.
For the last 15 months, I’ve allowed my daughter to be my excuse. First when I was pregnant, I did not continue working out because I felt so sick during my first trimester and then, I will be honest, life was busy and I was lazy. I figured six weeks after giving birth I would be back at working out. But again, I used my daughter as my excuse. I figured I only had 5 months at home with her, why would I spend any of that time working out away from her? I noticed that even though I lost all of the weight I gained during pregnancy, I was also getting softer. My thighs were a bit thicker than they’ve ever been. And taking the stairs was no longer something I did with ease. After one month back at work I faced reality: I was completely and totally out of shape.
It’s not that I didn’t want to put in the effort to work out, I did, but I find getting back in shape on my own intimidating. I’ve learned that for me, support is key. In the past whenever I’ve been most successful with my fitness I have not been alone; I was on a team, in Team In Training, participating in boot camp or working with a trainer.
How excited was I when Tina Reale announced The Best Body Boot Camp??
Tina’s Boot Camp is perfect for me—I have the support of a trainer and the other 300+ people participating AND I have the flexibility to work out when I can each day.
Boot camp started on Monday and so far I am loving it. The workouts can be done at home and are challenging. My muscles are screaming at me so I must be doing something right!
I took baseline measurements so I can see how much progress I make over the next two months, but I’m not a blogger that’s brave enough to share my measurements with the world. You’re just going to have to take my word for it
I plan to update you every now and then on how it’s going, but until then, how do you find time to work out? As a relatively new mama I can use all of the advice I can get!

Good for you! It is intimidating to get back into a fitness routine after having a baby. What worked for me was working out during my kids' naps during the day. I couldn't pull myself together to get up early in the morning (which I know works for a lot of people) and I would be a wreck by the end of the day. Both my husband and I work from home so he would continue to do work when the kids napped while I went to the gym. I think another part of it is making it a priority. I knew that working out was important to me and so did my husband so we would find the time for me to do it. Because it was good for my sanity, I would also be OK with leaving the kids for an hour and wouldn't feel guilty about it.
Good luck! The bootcamp sounds fund. Pls post updates so that I can work out vicariously through while since I won't be able to!
I’m so proud of you for getting back into shape! Boot camp is kicking my butt too! In a wonderful way
Thanks, Jen
I’m so impressed by all you’ve been able to do so far with W and running. Pretty amazing! #momsunite
Way to go girl! So proud of you! Bootcamp is literally making my booty hurt haha
So glad we are on this journey!
Me too! I know it’s only been one week but I am loving boot camp. It is exactly what I’ve needed for awhile!
Glad you are enjoying it! I agree about the support … it is so much easier to stay motivated when you have a team to support you!
It really is
Thanks so much!
Congrats! It's so easy to let days slip to months. I had a surgery in Nov 2010 and am just now trying to get back on total track.
I keep reading about the bootcamp and it sounds like it's a great workout!
Thanks! The boot camp is amazing, if Tina does it again, you should sign up. I hope you are feeling well as you get back into working out!
